Diagnostics Lab
Laboratory medicine department of Queen's Hospital has emerged as Sylhet's top diagnostic laboratory to its wide range of tests, dependability, and quick turnaround time. Modern, dependable diagnostic services are what we provide patients, general practitioners, and other hospitals around the Sylhet region, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
In addition, the department serves as a regional referral hub for specialist testing. Laboratory Medicine Department, while saving innumerable lives, is running no way behind the clinical departments. A medical diagnostic laboratory is the heart and soul of diagnosis, not just the skeleton of a treating physician.
There is a significant distinction between other diagnostic centers in the city and the Laboratory Medicine Department of Queen's Hospital with regard to accuracy and dependability. At Queen's Hospital, qualified post-graduate medical personnel who have vast knowledge and experience in the variations, pitfalls, and loopholes of lab reports handle consultations in Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Clinical Pathology. They do not need to manipulate the reports, as is often the case in other medical labs across the nation.
OUR LABORATORIES: The Queen's Hospital Laboratory Medicine Department contains five laboratories, each of which is supervised by a post-graduate physician. The following labs are available in the department:
- Biochemistry
- Clinical Pathology
- Immunology
- Microbiology
Quality Control (QC) Program of Queen’s Laboratory:
The pathology laboratory of Queen’s Hospital performs two QC programs
- Internal Quality Control (IQC)
- External Quality Assessment (EQA)
Internal Quality Control (IQC)
IQC is a procedure of practices used by laboratory personnel to continuously monitor operations and measurement findings. The goal is to determine whether results are dependable enough to be released and whether achieving analytical quality is essential. IQC materials are used once a day, and the test findings are verified using the acceptable QC range that the manufacturer or laboratory has designated.
External Quality Assessment (EQA)
A approach that enables comparison of laboratory tests with an external source is referred to as EQA. The performance of a reference laboratory or a peer group of laboratories can be used as a point of comparison. EQA helps in reassuring clients, including medical professionals, patients, and regulatory bodies, that the laboratory is capable of producing dependable results. EQA is a tool that individual laboratories can use to pinpoint issues with their procedures so that the necessary corrections can be made. Participation in EQA aids in monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of training as well as the dependability of techniques, supplies, and equipment. An approved laboratory must take part in one of the clearly stated EQA programs.
Randox offers an External Quality Assessment (EQA) program called the Randox International Quality Assessment Scheme (RIQAS). On March, 2024, Queen’s Hospital enrolled for immunoassay indicators for RIQAS Program. The Randox program has more than 3,500 laboratories associated with it worldwide. Following receipt of the EQA results, a performance review conversation is held between the Lab manager and the Consultant of the laboratory Medicine. Corrective measures are started, documented, and problem areas are recognized.
